About Us

St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, London, holds the distinction of being the first parish of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church established in the United Kingdom. Rooted in the deep spiritual traditions brought by Indian migrants from Kerala during the 1980s, the church began its journey in 1989 with the celebration of the first Holy Qurbana in London, which led to the formation of a vibrant and growing congregation. Over the years, the church has flourished—both in size and spiritual strength—now serving over 85 families and offering regular services, including Holy Qurbana in English every third Sunday. The parish is a registered UK charity, led under the spiritual authority of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II (Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church), His Beatitude Mor Gregorios Joseph (Catholicos of India of the Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church.), and His Grace Issac Mor Osthatheos (Patriarchal Vicar and Metropolitan for the UK).

In 2018, after years of prayer and perseverance, the church acquired its own premises in Harold Hill, Greater London, marking a historic milestone. Beyond liturgical services, the church actively fosters community through Sunday School, Youth Association, Vanitha Samajam, Kudumba Units, and charitable initiatives like food pantries, environmental efforts, and the community café. As a proud part of the Syriac Orthodox Church—one of the most ancient Christian traditions founded by Apostle St. Peter—the parish embraces the rich spiritual heritage of the Aramaic-speaking Syrian people. Today, St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church continues to be a beacon of faith, fellowship, and service, rooted in apostolic tradition while thriving as a compassionate, Christ-centered community in modern Britain.
