Our Church Choir plays a vital role in the liturgical and spiritual life of the parish. Rooted in ancient Syriac traditions, the choir serves not just as a group of singers but as an active participant in worship, enhancing the solemnity and depth of the Holy Qurbana (Holy Eucharist) and other services.
Key Aspects of Our Church Choir:
🎵 Liturgical Role
- The choir leads the congregation in traditional Syriac hymns (Beth Gazo) and Malayalam devotional songs during:
- Holy Qurbana (Mass)
- Morning and Evening Prayers
- Feast Day Celebrations
- The choir often responds in a call-and-response format with the priest, deacon, and congregation.
🕊️ Spiritual Purpose
- Their singing isn’t performance-oriented but meant to glorify God and aid in prayer.
🪕 Instruments and Language
- Traditionally a cappella, but our church uses keyboard or organ softly in the background.
- Hymns may be sung in:
- Syriac (classical language of the Church)
- Malayalam
- English (During English Holy Qurbana Every 3rd Sunday)
👥 Choir Composition
- Usually a mix of youth and adults, both male and female.
- Led by a choir leader or conductor who coordinates practice and assigns roles.
- Our church choir is trained in pitch, harmony, and Syriac pronunciation.
🏫 Training and Practice
- Regular choir practices are held weekly, especially before feasts or major services.
